Dogs need love and care in the same way as your other family members. They enjoy playing with you and want your attention and love. But many times they behave or react differently when a new puppy or a dog arrives or at the time of boarding.

It's tough time for the old dog when you decide to get a new dog or a puppy in your house. When the new member of the family arrives, the old dog feels afraid or violent and may behave unexpectedly. The jealousy may cause problems, especially if the old dog has been the only pet in your family. He has been the center of attention for so long, beloved and well-tended, and now everybody will give more time to the new dog or puppy. The easy solution to tackle such situation is to pet the old dog first before you handle the little one. When both dogs clamor for attention, pet both at the same time or neither.

Jealousy is very powerful in doggy relationships. Be careful when introducing a new puppy or a dog to the old dog. First, keep the puppy or dog in his cage where the oldster can sniff around him and say hello without being rushed and meantime pet the old dog lavishly. Feed the two separately, and watch them when they run together for the first days. Always pay particular attention to the old dog to keep him from feeling neglected and ignored. Do not permit the two to sleep together or be alone together until definite signs of friendliness are shown by the old dog.

Boarding the old dog is another tough situation but sometimes it may be necessary to board your dog. Perhaps you are travelling to a place where dogs are not welcome. Placing the dog in the hands of strangers is a hard time. You may select a boarding kennel of good reputation. Placing your dog to a good boarding kennel will have your dog as healthy, clean, and parasite-free when you take him as you expect him to be when you get him back again. Explain the kennel operator any habits or conditions that might make your dog difficult to handle.

Find out if the kennel stocks the brand of food your dog is currently eating. If not, determine if it is possible of boarding dogs. A change in diet when you are away may be dangerous for your dog. You should also determine if the kennel staff will assume the responsibility of giving your dog necessary medications on schedule. Deliver the dog a few days early, then telephone to make sure he is getting along before you leave.
