It may seem like a mistake to equate fitness with fun. For most of us, fitness involves sweating, pain, and often, boredom.

However, it doesn't have to be that way. Of the 20 plus gyms in Manchester from which to choose from, there are some that have found the right formula to remove the "work" from working out. Many of these gyms have established themselves in multiple locations. It is not difficult to find a specific fitness centre that has branches all across the UK. Most of these branches, whether located in Gorton, Whitefield or any other location, are open year-round and have generous hours.

These fitness centres have a common philosophy and that is to make fitness fun. We have all spent too much time on a treadmill, staring at the wall, waiting for the clock to tick down so that our time will be up. That is no way to exercise, nor is it a good way to motivate yourself to continue exercising. Therefore many fitness clubs give their members a combination of traditional work-out plans and machines mixed with fun activities and members' reward bonuses. For example, as soon as you join up as a member at a popular fitness club chain you receive a silver key fob that has your member number on it. This fob is not only your pass into the gym, but also a pass to receive discounts and perks at businesses affiliated with the specific company. Once you have been a member for over a year, you get a gold key fob and your discounts increase.

The atmosphere at these health clubs encourages you to relax after you are done with your workout. They offer a sauna, spa, and sun beds for their members. There could also be a cafe or restaurant attached to the gym where many members can enjoy good healthy food when they are done exercising. Some fitness centres encourage a social atmosphere by offering occasional talks or after-hours get-togethers for members to meet each other. They realise that working out with a friend is more rewarding and fun and so want you to meet and interact with other gym-goers.

Some popular fitness clubs come up with innovations that sets them above other gyms in Manchester. They also organise award ceremonies where the night is set aside to honour members who have achieved major health and wellness goals over their year at the gym. People are honoured for combating diabetes and obesity or for physical therapy gains after an accident. It is a time for the whole gym community to reaffirm why they work out.

In addition to all of this, many well-established gyms offer the standard array of cardio and resistance machines. They have free weights and weight machines as well. There is, of course, a wide variety of group exercise classes available in everything from spinning, to yoga, to aerobics, and everything in between. Especially if you are new to the gym, these group classes are a great way to get into the spirit of the fitness community. Of all the gyms in Manchester, it is easy to find one that you can call a home away from home.
