Hemorrhoids are known by the name of piles. They are the bulging and dilated veins of the anus and the rectum which is caused when the pressure is increased in the rectal veins. The blood vessels which lined the anus are involved in hemorrhoids. Muscles which support the hemorrhoid vessels become weak due to pressure on the walls of the rectum. There are two types of hemorrhoids. They are internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids are sac like protrusion inside the rectal canal whereas external hemorrhoids are around the anus inside the skin.
Various causes of hemorrhoids are there which includes vomiting, prolonged sitting, sneezing, coughing, diarrhea, due to constipation habitually straining, pregnancy, sedentary life style, anal intercourse, rectal or anal infection, cirrhosis of the liver, lifting or standing too much, due to overweight and intake of low fiber diet.
Most common symptoms of hemorrhoids are incomplete bowel movement, at the opening of anal soft lump is felt, rectal itching and the blood in the stool in small quantity or on the toilet paper after wiping.

Intake of fiber shows beneficial and consistent effect, which help in relieving the symptoms of hemorrhoid and bleeding. It helps in reducing the straining, soften the stool and also increase its bulk. It also reduces the symptoms like pain, discomfort and itching. So increase the intake of foods which are rich in fiber like whole grains and vegetables. If someone is suffering from constipation that too in worsen stage than the option is ground flaxseeds. Drink plenty of water also.
A type of plant compound known as 'Bioflavonoids', is very effective for the treatment of hemorrhoids. It decreases the inflammation and also strengthens the walls of the blood vessels. They are very effective to reduce the anal discomfort pain and anal discharge when any person undergoes an acute attack of hemorrhoid. It is also very fruitful in the treatment of hemorrhoids during the time of pregnancy.
It is advisable to put on loose clothing and cotton under wears, if someone is suffering from hemorrhoids. It is necessary to clean gently the anus with moist toilet paper or moistened pads after each bowel movements. Symptoms of hemorrhoids will also be reduced by taking aspirin or acetaminophen. With the help of ice pack the swelling is also reduced. You may also apply cortisone creams, petroleum jelly, suppositories or hemorrhoidal cream over the affected area.
