Bad breath is often the result of both- external and internal body factors. When you are careless about your mouth care, bacteria develops in the mouth and you can suffer from bad breath. Indigestion and stomach & intestinal disturbances also lead to foul smell in breath. Sinus or throat infections, tobacco and alcohol use are other causes of bad breath. Therefore, avoiding these factors will automatically prevent bad breath. Proper mouth care and keeping the bowel functions smooth by taking proper Ayurvedic diets can keep this problem at bay.

Bad breath is caused by odor-producing bacteria that grow in the mouth. When you don't brush and floss regularly, bacteria accumulate on the bits of food left in your mouth and between your teeth. The sulfur compounds released by these bacteria make your breath smell.

Causes of Bad Breath: -

Almost everything we put into our mouth, particularly food and drink, can make it smell less pleasant. For the majority of people, the most frequent cause of bad breath is associated with bacteria that live in the mouth, particularly on the tongue. This bacterium cans build-up as a result of poor oral hygiene and a lack of flossing.

The most common triggers of Bad Breath include:

• Food, particularly those high in protein
• Not eating breakfast
• Smoking
• Sinus problems
• Mouth sores
• Stress
• Dehydration
• Significant talking
• Zinc deficiency

Home Remedies for Bad Breath: -

• Brush your teeth with baking soda first, then rinse out your mouth with plain or warm, salty water. Follow this with regular toothpaste and you are on your way.
• Eating apples daily is also good for mouth purification as it removes the bacteria causing bad breath.
• Rinse juice of half a lemon with a glass of water after every meal. This is one of the effective home remedies for bad breath.
• Brush your tongue when you brush your teeth and after meals too. The tongue is like a lint catcher and it has to be cleaned off every so often to get that nice aroma to come through.
• Intake of food products that are rich in zinc prevents bad breath as it keeps the check on the anaerobic bacteria in the mouth.
• When you brush your teeth, use dental floss between the teeth. Mouthwashes and rinses can also help. Clean your tongue as well. A coated lounge can sometimes cause bad breath.
• Drink plenty of water. The water flushes out the toxins in your body that keep coming through your pores, nose, and mouth. On top of that, water just keeps your mouth tissues moist so that you do not have dry mouth.
