Irritable Bowel Syndrome is the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal condition and is second only to the common cold as a cause of absence from work. An estimated 10 to 20 percent of people in the general population experience symptoms of IBS, although only about 15 percent of affected people actually seek medical help.

The most common symptom of IBS is pain or discomfort in the abdomen. This may be associated with stomach cramps. The pain ranges from mild to severe, and may be made better by opening the bowels or passing wind. It is often made worse by eating.

Pain may occur at a particular time of day, often in the evening. Women often find the ups and downs of pain relates to their menstrual cycle.

That may be hard for you to believe since you probably have symptoms like abdominal pain and cramping, painful gas, bloating, alternating constipation and diarrhea - which can lead to hemorrhoids and sometimes nausea, headache, and fatigue, too. Irritable bowel syndrome, also known as spastic colon or irritable colon is actually a set of chronic digestive symptoms rather than a disease. If you have IBS, there is nothing physically wrong with your gastrointestinal tract.

Diarrhea: - A person with irritable bowel syndrome may have frequent loose stools. Bowel movements usually occur during the daytime, and most often in the morning or after meals. Diarrhea is often preceded by a sense of extreme urgency and followed by a feeling of incomplete emptying. About one-half of people with IBS also notice mucous discharge with diarrhea. Diarrhea occurring during sleep is not common with IBS.

Constipation: - The constipation of irritable bowel syndrome can last from days to months. Stools are often hard and pellet-shaped. You may not feel empty after a bowel movement, even when the rectum is empty. This faulty sensation can lead to straining and sitting on the toilet for prolonged periods of time.

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome may include: -

•    Gas
•    Diarrhea
•    Constipation
•    Bloating
•    Mucus in the stool

Causes of Irritable Bowel Syndrome

•    Inappropriate diet
•    Inactivity
•    Stress
•    Disease
•    Drugs
•    Ignoring the urge to have a bowel movement

Triphala naturally has a sustained release effect that is very efficient in preventing the accumulation of gas thereby preventing abdominal cramps. As the triphala states get absorbed in the body it helps in suction of more oxygen from the lungs. This oxygen along with the gastric acids that are secreted in stomach breaks the bound magnesium.
