Nutrigenomics is science that deals with studies of nutrition and food focusing mainly on the interactions with diseases and human-specific genes. The term nutrigenetics is used to refer to study of the effects of variations in genes and gene-nutrient interactions in managing chronic diseases.

It examines people's reactions against food compounds based on post-genomic and related technologies like genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabol/nomic and more. Its long-term goal is to understand better how our body responds to real foods using an integrated approach known as 'systems biology.'

An attractive advantage of such approach is the possibility of studies examining people-such as our population, sub-populations based on genes and diseases, and individuals-food, lifestage and lifestyle in the absence of pre-conceived concepts.

The post-genomic technologies offer more holistic perspective. These technologies use the information produced by sequencing of human genome, thereby allowing scientists to measure how we eat which foods interacts with our bodies, our genes, our protein and metabolism.

While in the past, scientific explorations had been limited to a few dietary compounds-petty relevant biochemical pathways and small number of genes pertinent to a certain disease-the findings have proved to be evidence of benefits from individual and groups of food compounds.

Mankind is exposed constantly to a complex combination of foods throughout his lifetime. In the intricate biochemical processes extract energy, use nutrients and other compounds to allow us to grow and function properly. In the previous years, many food compounds were discarded as insignificant, without apparent nutritional value.

Nevertheless, today, we are able to comprehend that dietary intake is not only about avoidance of deficiency illnesses, but also about attaining optimal health. It also means avoiding age-related diseases. In truth though, the advantages of certain dietary selections are not the same for everybody.

This fact makes nutrigenomics an exciting prospect for nutrition researches.
Genetics play an important role in the construction of a human body. The structure of your human body ascertains how the food you have eaten is used in your body. While it is for now generally deemed as a new science or a new age science, many biochemists and geneticist from across the world accepted the concept of nutrigenomics.

Nutrigenomics is a valid science. Studies conducted on the effect of genetic structure on health only makes it clearer how human genes determine which foods should be avoided by you and which food should be selected.

Scientists behind this science acknowledged that the journey to more discoveries is still long; however, they believe that there are valid and concrete grounds for such concept. In fact, it is now starting to give valid explanation on some dietary inconsistencies among members of the same family, resemblance in body shape and use of nutrients.

Nutrigenomics can explain why a person can eat as much as he likes without gaining weight while another put on several pounds just by munching one small piece of chocolate. Also, the principles behind such science are used to measure the nutritional supplement best suited to your genetic structure.

Now, everyone will have a personalized dietary advice. There are even genetically-guided nutritional supplements formulated on a personal basis.
