When talking about body building nutrition, the balance of nitrogen in the body is usually disregarded. Yet among the most important element of body building dieting, maintaining a nitrogen balance every three hours or so, ranks high. Let's introduce the element of nitrogen balance as part of the bodybuilder's diet for now.
A positive balance of nitrogen in the body builder's system is an optimal physiological state that makes maximal muscular growth possible. Balance in nitrogen levels is built and maintained by proper dieting in terms of nutritional balance and frequency of meals. The question is how a body builder can achieve such a balance. How can the state be maintained throughout the day? Building and maintaining an optimal nitrogen balance is rather simple for a dieting body builder. Dietitians usually advice body builders to take fresh supplies of the muscle building nutrients, especially those rich in nitrogen, after every three hours during the day.
Essentially, a human body is configured to work more efficiently in metabolic processes in terms of productivity and rate, when it is given small amounts of food at established regular intervals in a day. The feedings must be evenly spaced throughout a day. More importantly however, the meals must incorporate a balanced ratio of high quality protein, minerals and of course adequate carbohydrates. When this is done, nitrogen levels in the body are built up to optimal levels and maintained there in every subsequent meal.
Metabolic processing must be maintained at all times during the day if adequate nutrients are to be available for the muscles during workout and resting periods. But eating a balanced meal sometimes becomes a hard thing to maintain. This is so because of the busy schedules in which most body builders live with. There are the family responsibilities to take care of, the job rigors to go through, the personal commitments and of course the intense workouts to attend. If a body builder does not establish a meticulous routine and schedule that allocates specific time limits for each of these, dieting always becomes an issue.
In a bid to maintain an optimal nitrogen balance therefore, a body builder must become inventive. One or two nutritious bars eaten with a glass of low fat milk are enough to supply over 50 grams of the needed proteins and at least a hundred grams of energy supplying carbohydrates. Taking a healthy sandwich and drinking a protein shake takes only a minute or two but if dine regularly after every three hours, coupled with proper sit-down meals, will amplify nitrogen levels in the muscle cells and also provide the energy and building materials essential for growth.
A good idea is to cook at home the most nutritious and well balanced meal you can think of and then packing some for the times you are away from home. Juxtapose these packed meals with regular bite-sized healthy snacks and graze the day for maximal muscle growth. A positive nitrogen balance thus built and maintained amplifies the ability of a body builders muscle growth to hit the all time high.
