- Buying an Electric Power Wheelchair By:-parker Samie
There are many new advances in technology that help make life easier, and there are many elderly or handicapped people out there who want to be more independent. There are wheelchairs to help people get around, and it has become a common sight to see shopping complexes and office buildings have a ramp somewhere so people with wheelchairs can gain entry to the building and exit safely. There are two main types of wheelchairs out there which are manual and electric. A manual wheelchair requires either someone to push the chair for the person sitting in the wheelchair or for the user to manually roll and steer the wheelchair. This may get tiring, may be hard or impossible for some people with certain conditions. This is where an electric wheelchair comes in handy. Electric wheelchairs are easier to handle and move around with as they are battery powered, and controlled by a joystick of some kind.
If you are out in the market to purchase a wheelchair, there are a couple key points to keep in mind. These are ease of use, cost, and durability.
While browsing about for an electric wheelchair, be sure to take into account just how easy the wheelchair is to use. Will the size and model be comfortable for you to sit in and are the controls positioned where you can easily control the wheelchair. You don’t want to have to exert too much force to work the controls. Ask how the starts and stops are with the electric wheelchair, as you don’t want something that is going to jerk you around.
Be sure to shop with your budget in mind. Check out many different electric wheelchairs and view all the many features that each one has. If you are going to be using an electric wheelchair only temporarily, you may want to consider other options or cheaper alternatives. Try to find a cheaper alternative if you can that has the features you need at a more affordable cost. If you are going to be using an electric wheelchair permanently or for a long period of time you are most likely going to want one that suits your needs perfectly and something you will definitely be satisfied with.
If you are going to be using your electric wheelchair for a long time, surely you are also going to want one that will last you a long time. Durability is important, so it is important to make sure you are buying a quality product. Check out any warranties that may be offered with your purchase. A longer warranty could mean less hassle for you later down the road.
On top of these things you should also look for comfort. If you require an electric wheelchair, then you will probably be sitting in it for long periods at a time. It is also important to look at the seat options that come with the electric power wheelchair you are looking at and select the one that is best for you. If you are buying online, and you have a local shop that sells the model you want, it might even be a good idea to go to your local shop just to try that specific model out, or several different ones. Afterwards, go back online to make your purchase, as I’m sure you will be saving a bit of money by buying it online.
- Buying a Used Stair Lift for Your Home By:-parker Samie
Secondhand or used stair lifts can give you the savings you need for the most part. But do remember there are pros and cons when buying one. Below are some tips on factors you may want to consider before purchasing a used stair lift:
Intended application
You may find a great deal with all the parts and controls still working but if does not fit your requirements it is useless. Take note of your necessities before anything else. Do you need a straight or curved stair lift? If your area frequently experience power outages you should get a battery-operated lift. Will the lift be on the same side with the stairs? These are crucial details you have to settle first. It will be a big waste if you already bought, installed and configured everything only to discover that it cannot serve its intended purpose.
General condition
It generally includes the physical attributes of the lift – power source, seatbelt, footrest, seat depth, controls, etc. Do you have to replace a part or accessory before you can be able to use it? This may not appear to be a difficult thing to do but what if the part you have to get is not available anymore or you can only get it from a very distant store? Are the main controls still working and in good condition? Sometimes just looking and checking the general appearance can already suggest that this particular used stair lift is not what you are looking for.
History of previous users
Knowing some details on the history of the stair lift and its previous owner can help you decide which one to purchase. For how long did they use it? Did they obtain it new? Do they smoke? Identifying this basic information can prevent you from future troubles. Your budget may be a little tight but still you want to get a working and reliable stair lift after all.
Warranty and after sales service or support
Even if you settle for a second hand stair lift, verifying warranty service is still a must. You will never know what may happen while using it especially given the fact that other people have previously used it. Also, ask if your supplier or retailer provides after sales support. This is very helpful in maintaining and keeping your lift in good condition over time. Unless you have technical expertise and knowledge on these things, knowing who to call or where to go when problems arise will be a very big help.
Cost and availability
For most used items and goods, the general rule is it’s cheaper compared to brand new ones. So if you are considering getting a used lift, it is safe to assume that you will be saving a lot. Check also similar models that are still supported by retailers or suppliers. If the model you just bought is still sold in many stores, then you will have no difficulty in changing parts and acquiring services or support.
- Adjustable Bed Options By:-parker Samie
So you are now a believer to the benefits of using an adjustable bed. You know that a good and comfortable sleep is necessary if you need to recharge to prepare for the next day’s chores. More importantly, you know that sleep would provide your cells the chance to repair the damages to the tissues incurred during the course of the day. Choosing the right adjustable bed, however, could be a daunting experience more so if you do not know what options should be considered to choose one that would best suit your needs.
No adjustable bed could be considered the best since the “best adjustable bed” is subjective. What could be the best for you may not be the best for other people. Hence, the specific need of the user must be considered in choosing. Below are some options that could assist you in selecting the right adjustable bed.
Hi/Lo Option. Also known as the height adjustment, this allows the mattress to be raised or lowered. The height of the mattress can be adjusted to provide the user ease in getting in and out of bed. Transferring to and from a wheel chair would be easier thus minimizing the risk of injuries.
Head Elevation Option. Raising the head of the bed would provide support to the head, neck, back and lower back. Full back support makes for a comfortable sitting position. Pillow propping will no longer be necessary if you want to watch TV, read a book or finish reports in your lap top computer.
Breathing difficulties due to asthma and due to obesity will be alleviated if the back and head is elevated. The lungs will be allowed to function more easily and naturally as the pressure is decreased.
Leg Elevation Option. This option will be most helpful to users with blood circulation problems. The slight elevation of the legs would allow the blood to flow and circulate freely so that the user will awake fully refreshed and without numbed arms and legs. Even healthy people would sometimes need to rest and elevate aching legs and feet especially after a workout or a strenuous exercise. The automatic leg elevation feature that an adjustable bed provides can be a real relief.
To a normally healthy person, using an adjustable bed means a more comfortable and perfect sleep. However, to an elderly or to a mobility impaired individual, an adjustable bed is the best support to nursing care.
With these options in mind, you will be able to make a more informed decision on your next adjustable bed purchase.
